The Beach Boys, with front-girl “Annette”, perform under the title credits to a chunk of mid-1960’s teenage movie flotsam. This is the 1965 movie The Monkey’s Uncle which was a sequel to 1964’s The Misadventures of Merlin Jones. Same cast. Each film was actually two 45 minutes episodes (with separate plots) originally intended to air on Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color tv program as a 4-part series. They were released to theaters instead to take advantage of Annette’s popularity in films. The Beach Boys opening was added for this purpose

Just love that at the age of 14. If all she had was big jump rope. This woman would two Big Black Eyes…
Nobody said Mike Love wrote anything. He was just part of the group and he did something right cause he lasted a long time and made a lot of money. If you don’t like beach music that’s your choice, but it’s been around a long time. Surf music has changed a lot but it all represents the same thing. Surfin is livin!
You tell em rogue baby… HE DIDN’T! Do the homework! ; )
Annette bores me to tears! Someone needs to mess up her hair or something…
@roguehk Look, he may not have come up with a note as you say. He did bring to the table lyrical writing and a voice that helped capture america . Much the way Eric Wright aka EZ E off NWA did.
Sure he did. So did Brittney Spears. So did 1,000 other artists who were lucky enough to work with a creative genius who wrote the some of the most amazing songs, amazing melodies and amazing arrangements of the time. Do you honestly think Mike Love came up with one single note he sang? Newsflash: HE DIDN’T. Don’t believe me? Do the homework.
@roguehk No talent mike love sure made some money.
i love that song did this song in front of 900 kids it was so imbarasing but so fun at the same song even know i was in second grade SO LONG AGO
another sherman classic
I had a couple beers with Mike Love and Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean at University of New Orleans…they were two really cool regular guys, no attitude at all. They are a big part of music history and rightly so. Beach music has it’s place just like Motown and British Invasion.
Back then music had a soul and made you feel great. Thank’s Annette, Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Fantastic Baggy’s, Motown! The Beach movies and music weren’t meant for political awareness….it was simply to make you dance and feel alive….and they did!!!
Frikkin’ no talent Mike Love looks like he’s trying to pinch one. Either that, or he’s dancing like somebody’s granddad at a wedding. Embarrassing.
You need a better transfer. I have this in a pristine copy.
check this live cover out by three fantastic young ladies …. I think their version is better ..!

@electroplate Totally! It rocks in spite of itself!
@electroplate Agreed…the Beach Boys sound is timeless….love those backup vocals and harmony.
I recall seeing this at the State Theater in Cocoa Florida when it came out.
I would sell my soul to have met her in her prime
Actually monkees were a very big deal at the time. First I dug them at the zoo, I had monkee toys, monkee’s are very human like, monkee’s were the first space traveler’s, etc. etc. Man check out that entire string of monkee’s rule the world movie’s that Charleton Heston starred in. Monkee’s was that big. Was called Planet of the Apes, that was probly the beginning of sequels in the movie world.
This song is ridiculous but I can’t stop listening to it. Illustrates the musical genius of the Beach Boys that they turned a song such as this into a masterpiece.
COOL!!!
God! Annette Funicello! My first stiffy!
You are talking about Annett funicello, very hot , was in a lot of movies. She did a movie in the 80’s called back to the beach with ,with Frankie Avalon. She did a lot of beach movies in the 1960’s. She also has Multiple sclerosis. I think she enjoeys her career.
You should look up the Jan Berry story some time. or google Jan and Dean
One of the greatest songs ever to open a movie. It really gets you going. This is also a great film. Disney Magic!
no wonder they did so many drugs in the 60s
